From the Himalayas across Africa to Juval Castle
Juval Castle is well worth a visit and is open to the public even when Messner is in residence during summer months. Guests enter through the inner courtyard with its Himalayan cedars and can see a dozen of the castle's rooms. The chapel houses various religious relics from over the centuries and one tower contains historic paintings, an oil painting by Luis Trencker entitled the "Source of Enlightenment" and the "House of Trolls and Gnomes". There are also some frescoes of Kaiser Max, Emperor Maximilian, the world’s richest collection of Tibetan exhibits, an extensive gallery of pictures and paintings of mountain scenes and Messner`s own very original collection of masks from the five continents. Equipment and tools used on his many expeditions and adventures are also on show in the cellar.
